The Jays are back at work this weekend

Amid all of the hoopla surrounding the future of Roy Halladay, the Jays do have some games to play. In fact, the AL East Division leading Boston Red Sox are in town and the trio of weekend games offers some interesting matchups.
Tonight, Sox send Clay Buchholz finally makes his season debut after running up a 7-2 record with a 2.36 ERA at AAA Pawtucket. He has been rumored to be a centerpiece in a possible trade package that the Sox might like to offer for Roy Halladay. He hasn’t fared too well with an 0-2 mark with a 4.22 ERA in three appearances. The Jays will trot out rookie sensation Ricky Romero who has posted a 7-3 mark with a 3.00 ERA in an effort to give the Jays a boost to start the second half.
Saturday, the Sox will trot out Brad Penny, 6-3, 4.71 ERA, whom they signed as filler to their starting rotation in the past off-season. They are one of a few teams that could have afforded and entertained the possibility of bringing a veteran with Penny’s track record into their mix. Again, the Jays counter with a 2009 surprise contributor in lefty Brian Tallet, (5-6, 4.95 ERA). Tallet has struggled a bit lately but is the type of lefty starter who has given the Red Sox fit from time to time this season.
Sunday, we have a great matchup as lefty John Lester, the Red Sox flashy lefty who sports an impressive 3.87, takes to the mound for the visitors.
His opponent….some guy named Roy Halladay. You’ve read about him here before, haven’t you?
