One man’s opinion

December 17th, 2009 | by jays1992 |

Don't believe my hometown hype? Here's what an outsider thinks of the Doc.

It is usually a home town bias that appears in these team blogs and faithful readers know my opinion of Roy Halladay, whom I regard as one of the most dominant and consistent pitchers in the modern era, perhaps even all-time.

Today, in the wake of the trade that sent him to Philadelphia, I asked a respected colleague, Ray Flowers (Fanball’s own fantasy baseball guru and the guy I report to, on the hockey side), for his views on the good (actually Great) Doc Halladay.

Bear in mind the stats that Ray draws our attention to, were compiled with a team that has hovered around the .500 mark, while his career win percentage in Toronto was .661. That personal career win percentage ranks Roy 18th all-time among all Major League pitchers with more than 100 career decisions. Just consider that for a moment.

For Ray’s analysis, please go to the following link and get his viewpoint on Halladay and this trade.

In closing the Toronto chapter of Halladay’s career, I will say it has been my privilege to score a large number of his starts in my other role as play by play reporter for STATS INC, during his entire career.

Good luck in Philly, Doc.
