Alomar misses out on Hall of Fame in first year of eligibility

January 6th, 2010 | by jays1992 |

Alomar has to wait to gain entry into Hall Of FameThe Blue Jays will have to wait at least one more season for their first alumnus to be officially recognized in Baseball’s Hall Of Fame.

In voting released at 2:00 p.m. EST today, only Andre Dawson was able to gain the minimum of 75% of the vote in support of his admission.

The “Hawk” was actually named on 77.9% of the 539 ballots.

Alomar was named on 73.7% of the ballots, meaning that he missed by a scant 10 votes in his first year of eligibility.

The slick-fielding and smart hitting second baseman had a stellar career, which crested during his time in Toronto.

The 17 year major leaguer has plenty of credential, including multiple All-Star, Golden Gloves and Silver Slugger awards and was a 2-time World Series winner (with Toronto).
He batted an even .300, with 2724 hits in 2379 games played.

He was often on highlight reels owing to his spectacular fielding exploits at second base.

This narrow miss must feel a bit like a spit in his face.

Hmm…
